THE LA1)D MURDERThe Afro Americans of Henry County, Meet, and Pass ResolutionsCondemning the Cowardly Murder of'Ldd.NewCabtle, June 4.—Special to the Herald:—On Monday colored men could have been Been passing hand bills on the streets of New Castle, and posting up notices calling a public meeting of the Afro-Americans of this place last night, to take action iu relation to the murder of Eli Ladd and the trial and acquittal of Lake, who led the mob. The bills and postets were destroyed about as fast as posted by some of the truly loyal Republi-eans of this city, yet notice of the meeting was sufficient to call out the entire colored population of this place, with many from the country. Judge Bundy was severely criticised by those who addressed the meeting, and although many of the Republican leaders sought to frighten and bulldoze the leaders of the meeting, yet they could not succeed After reciting in a preamble, the manner of the mob that murdered Ladd, how “they chased him down like a wild ‘beast, drove him from the house of Ins affianced,” etc., the preamble wound up with these words: “The said Lake was put upon his trial in the Henry Circuit Court, and after a lengthy mock trial, he was acquitted and fully discharged. This acquittal was the fruit of a trial in the Henry Circuit Court, miscalled a court of justice.” Therefore resolved: That if thisacqu:ttul is to be taken as the measure of a colored man’s protection under the laws of the State, then it is high time that eviry colored man in Henry county should know it.Resolved: That we, as colored people claim no rights or privileges not accorded to common humanity, and we do not com] lain when compelled to submit to law or suffer punishment when disobedient thereto, but that one of our number, while committing no crime nor given a chance to answer for any supposed crime, has been chased a mile and a half and shot down dead and left lying there tor the crows to take care of, strikes us with alarm and consternation, not simply from the fact that an atrocious murder has been committed, but that the failure to execute the law in a civilized community constitutes the alarming feature to us.’’
