Wc have the following Account from the County of Rofcoramon. Two young Gentlemen of the Name of Crofton (Relations to Sir Edward Crofton) were fent by their Father to diftrain certain Lands in that County for Rent. The Tenant whofe name is Hawks, apprifed of their coming, had provided Arms, and flood upon his Defence. When the Groftons were preparing to drive the Cattle to Pound, the Tenantmet them with a Gun in his Hand, and fwore he would lire upon the fir ft Perfon that would touch a Beaft of his. The Elder Crofton not regarding his Threats, attempted to feize the Cattle. Mr. Hawks was as good as his Word, he levell’d his Gun loaded with Swan-fhot, and discharged it at him', by which one of his Arms was fhatter’d to pieces, and part of his Face ftiot away; The Younger Brother who was at fome diftance, feeing the Elder Brother Fall, rid up to his Affiftance, with a Piftol in his Hand, which5 he attempted to difcharge at HaWks, but it mifs’d Fire, before he could draw the fecond, Hawks turn’d ihe But end of his Gun and ftruck him with it over the Head, by which yhe fraur’d his Scull in two Places. When the Letters came away neither of the Brothers were Dead. Mr. Hawks has made his Efcape.
