Birmingham, Ala., June 4 —7— A band of men and women wear ing Ku Klux Klan robes took part in a church service near Birming ham last night, on the eve of a new series of court trials for accused night riders, Frank Bruer, reporter for the Bimingham Post-Heald, said: one of the men was masked in defi ance of Alabama law. As robed guard holding a blackjack or dered a photographer not to take pictures, he added. The group of about 35 men and women drove to a small Protes tant church near New Merkle, southeast of here, in an automo bile caravan. One of their number had made a speech to the congregation praising the klan before the re porter arrived, he was told. Members of the band declined to reveal the name of the speak er or of the preacher. They said they were invited to take part in the service.
