Mrs. Grace Livingston Hill Lutz and daughter, Miss Margaret Hill, spent last Tuesday in New York City, where the latter is studying under Ernest Hutcheson, the noted pianist of Berlin, Germany. Dr. and Mrs. E. M. Patterson and daughter are guests of the Harvard for a short period. Their many friends regret to hear of their removal from Swarthmore. After a summer at the shore, Dr. and Mrs. Patterson will lo cate in Philadelphia. The sun of prosperity will not always shine. The wise man provides himself with an umbrella. Miss Alberta Florence, the talented young violinist of the Chautarvqua en tertainers, was a guest early in the week of Mrs. Edwin A. Yarnall The influx of Chautauquans into the town this week has taxes to capacities of both the Tea Room and Booth's restaurant for feeding the multitude, and both have risen ably to the occa sion. Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Thayer and Mr. and Mrs. Ainsworth took a driv ing trip to Wilmington last Saturday, where they spent the weekend at Hotel DuPont, arriving home on the after noon of the 31st. The opening reception and dance at Strath Haven Inn on Saturday evening , will be quite the leading social event of the week. Mrs. Edwin A. Yarnall will begin her Chautauqua work as platform superin tendent in Petersburg, Va. on Satur day, June 12, and will continue for four weeks on “a circuit in Virginia and North Carolina.” Mr. Carl H. Chaffee has been recently elected president of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Banking. Mrs. Thomas W. Simpers and her two daughters left for Spring Lake, N. J., last week to spend the month of June.
