Weather exceptionally warm and pleasant. Decoration Day has come and gone again. Farmers are complaining of the grub worms destroying their corn, and some fields that were planted in corn are being sown in Millet. Those who attended the Com mencement of the Highschool at New Castle, from this place were: Mr. and Mrs. W, EL, Canada, Dr. and Mrs Franks, Dr. Mills, Miss Clara Templin, Misses Bell Nickum, Dora Burroughs, Mr. Harvey and Lon Cook. ‘They sit with one ac cord pronounce the exercises good, and report a general good time. The graduating class contained fourteen members, of which Miss Jessie Franks, of Losantaville, was one of the number. The first Commencement of Nettle Creek township, took place at the Christian church in Losanteville on last Friday evening. The attend ance was large, and the graduates acquitted themselves well, James N. Johnson was master of cermon ies, the exercises were opened with prayer, by Rev. Thomas, music was furnished by the Losantville Choir. The exercises of the graduates con sisted of essays and a first and prize was offered for the best essay, and best declamation, by W. W. Reed, of Winchester, the enterpris ing Stationer and Druggist, which consisted of four good and valuable books, County Superintendent Denny was present, and selected the following committees to award the prizes, on essays; Dr. Franks, M. KE, Lindsay and M. M. Holiday, on declamations: Dr. Mills, Rev. Thomsa and Fanklin Burrough. The following are the names of the graduates, thirteen in number: America Hunt, Gertrude Clevenger, Lena Hanscom, William Crouse, Lunes Edwards, Sarah Hust, Omar Roas, Mary B. Lumpkin, Bert Will iams, Kittie Wright, Gilbert Mauls by, William Howell and EH. N. Canady. At the close of the exer cises of the class, Supertendent Denney addressed them, and made several pointed and appropriate re marks, which should make an im pression on their minds, and no doubt will. ‘The first prize for the vest essay was awarded to Miss Sarai Hunt, second to William Crouse, first prize on declaration, tow. N. Canady, second, to Miss America Hunt. The benediction was pronounced and thus ended Nettle Creek township’s — first Commencement. About all the teachers in the township attended the commence ment. At the commencement Miss Emma Blount acted as organist for the choir, Miss Jessie Franks returned from the New Castle schol last Sat urday evening. Miss Blanch Rawlings, of Mont pelier, is visiting friends in and around Logantville. Everything would have passed off nicely and quietly, at the com mencement, had it not been for a few young men, and kids, who filled themselves with bad whiskey, whooped, and hallooed around the church, and towered themselves in the estimation of all good people who know them. The Grand Jury and Prosecuting Attorney, might profitably investigate this matter. Neil Hunt brought “Alexis” a thoroughbred horse to this place from Blackford County, last Satur day, and will keep him hear the re mainder of the season. He must be seen to be appreciated,
