The Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum:WHERE SHALL IT UK LOCATED?A correspondent of the Richmond Enquirer, over tho signature of “Han-dolph,” furnishes the following fuels in relation to this projected institution— and follows them up with an exhibit of the advantages of Beverly, tho county *cat of Randolph, as the site for the Asylum:—“Tho General Assembly, at its late session, passed an act establishing a Trans-Allcghuny Lunatic Asylum, and authorized the Governor to appoint three Commissioners, whose duty shall be to select a site. Tho Commissioners are to commence their labors on the fust Monday in June next. They are to bo appointed, one from the Valley of Virginia, and the other two from the part of the State East of the Blue Ridge of Mountains. Their personal knowledge, therefore, of the Trans-Alleglmny country, in all probability, must be more or less limited, and as | the selection of a site for such an institution, properly and judicially made, is a matter oi great importance, we take it for granted that they will weigh well the advantages and disadvantages ot the various localities that may be presented for their consideration. The great object in the establishment of ( such an institution, being to ameliorate the condition of the unfortunate and • afflicted ol our race, great care should , be taken and diligence used, to select a site having all the physical advantages possible. In view of this fact, we believe it to be the duty of the friends ol the various localities that may be presented for the consideration of said ; Commissioners, to present such facts and circumstances us may be considered of importance to the success and prosperity of said institution.JBfiT* Well, here is Morgantown— one of tho most comely, moral, intellectual, and otberwiso attractive towns in the State—proverbially healthy— having an abundance of good water— and a market affording every tiling necessary for the supply of an Asylum. In this respect, at least, our locality is vastly superior to Beverly, or any o-ther town or village surrounded by mountains of primeval forest. The Commissioners will certainly take a look at Morgantown, in the course of their perambulations ; and our leading citizens will not fail to lay before them I —as soon as it can be ascertained who they aro—such representations of the ( advantages cf this location, as will secure their early attention to it.If our recollection serves us, at the ’ time this Asylum was first suggested, Preston County stood prominent as the place of all others most suitable for its site, Well, IVcston has its peculiar natural advantages, combined with a I wide.awake and energetic population, would probably be our second choice,' if we had the fixing of the spot. But no plea from us is necessary in behalf of Treslon. With an ex-Congressman, members of the Legislature, Counsellors learned in the law, and all that— they are fully competent to attend to their own interests; and they will not fail to do it.
