FROM HERALD STAFF The 23rd annual Czech Kolache Klobase Festival takes place this com ing Saturday at Riverside Hall in East Bernard. This event brings people together to enjoy Czech music, food and to cel ebrate ethnic heritage and culture. Beginning at 10:30 a.m. and con tinuing nonstop until 11 p.m., the fes tival again features a lineup of enter tainers including Texas Sound Check, Czech Then Some, Duska Bros., Red Ravens, Al Sulak’s Country Sounds, Prada Bros. and The Washers whose album “Tired Eyes” received Album of the Year at the Texas Music Awards in March. There will again be a three-band concert at 4:30 p.m. inside the hall. Two sets of dancers are also on the program this year — students from Keller Academy of Performing Arts of East Bernard and from the A Time to Dance Studio. Festival admission is $7 per person : children 12 and under free. Parking is free and there are handicapped park ing spaces. Massive water fans will cool the pavilion to provide a comfortable set ting for dancers and spectators. A mesh canopy will cover a large area in front of the pavilion to protect fes tival visitors from the June heat. Arts and crafts booths will be located both inside and outside the hall. Crafts and goods will be for sale. The cakewalk returns this year, pro viding an opportunity to win a cake to take home. There will again be entertainment for the younger set. They will enjoy a performance at 12:30 p.m. by students from Keller Academy of Performing Arts, who will feature Czech-costumed students and some typical Czech folk dances At 4 p.m. students from the A Time to Dance Studio also of East Bernard will perform. A plate lunch will be served featur ing sausage, barbecue chicken, sauer kraut and other trimmings. The sau sage and chicken will be prepared on site that morning. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. This year, drive-through plates to go will again be offered from 11 to 1 p.m. Admission will not be charged for drive-through customers. Of course, there will be hundreds of kolaches for sale. As in prior years, hamburgers and sausage sandwiches will be available.
