Sophie Ave. site will house Central, GATE By Joseph RoBERTS The Middletown Board of Ed ucation decided Thursday to site the planned replacement building for Rosedale Elementary School on Miller Road, and adopted oth er proposed changes to its ele mentary schools building project. The building that will replace Rosedale will be constructed about 11% miles north of the pres ent school, while the existing So phie Avenue facility will be reno vated and expanded into a new home for Central Academy Non graded Elementary School and the GATE gifted and talented program. The board voted 4-1 in favor of the package of changes, which schools officials have said would save the district $2 million to $3 million. The vote came over the protest of some Rosedale-area residents, who in recent weeks have asked that their neighborhood school not be moved to a new site. Please see SCHOOLS | A10
