Proceeds will raise money for the • Henry County unit of the American Cancer Society. The goal for the three-day event is Sit.000.The statewide Jail-N-Bail event was begun by the American Cancer Society a year ago and is being done in most counties sometime this year. Nearby Wood County recently raised $18,000 in one and a half days.For a $25 pre-paid donation to the Henry County Cancer Society, anyone can have a specific individual arrested on a bogus charge. Suggested charges include impersonating a car dealer, exceeding the speed limit while jogging, transporting females across the state line, impersonating a school superintendent, indecent exposure from the neck up or removing all ashtrays from the officePre-arrests begin Tuesday and can be made by calling a specialhotline number, 592-JAIL, or the American Cancer Society office at599-3903.A summons will be filled out for each person, listing the time, date and location the arrest should be made.Arrests will be made June 12, 13and 14 between 10 a m and 3 p m. .Off-duty members of the Napoleon police department, Henry County sheriff’s department and police and sheriff’s auxiliaries will visit the arrestee, explain the situation and good-naturedly take him to jail.Everyone has to be willing to participate. emphasized Mary Klear, executive director of the Henry County Cancer Society, adding that she hopes industries will cooperate in allowing employees to leave the workplace. If there is a problem, employees will not be taken away.A mock jail will be set up in the window of the old Murphy building in downtown Napoleon. Use of the building has been donated by Martin Hoeffel.There, “prisoners” will go before a judge and jury (in optional handcuffs and prison attire) in a Kangaroo Kourt made up of community volunteers. Bail will be set, and seven phones have been placed in the jail from which calls for help can be made.If the arrestee raises the bail amount in pledges for the Cancer Society, he will be freed. If the amount is not raised, he will still be let go but perhaps placed on “probation.”Most prisoners will be in jail about an hour.Klear noted that pledges are tax-deductible.Each arrestee will receive a freemugshot courtesy of VanAusdale Photography, a free prison cap and a certificate. Return transportation will be Drovided.Shaw, a Cancer Society board member, and Jack Conn, county jail administrator.The event is being conducted in cooperation with Napoleon Moose Lodge and Women of the Moose. The Cancer Society is this year’s fundraising project for the MooseLodge members will serve as Kourt volunteers, and Women of the Moose will serve refreshments to prisoners. Henry County Senior Center members also will be volunteering serv ices.Klear explained that funds raised will be used during 1986 The Henry County unit received 40 percent of its funding this year from UnitedWay of Henry County and must raise the remaining 60 percent. This year’s goal is $38,500 The money will be used for Henry County cancer patients and also for research and educationDuring the last fiscal year, 73 pa tients were aided.
