Around Town With JoanBy joan Tully ' Hubby and I dined recently atthe Blue Dolphin Restaurant in ; East Farmingdale and enjoyed anoteworthy evening. HostessPhyliss Scherwitzki and twin brothers Vinnie and Ricky (which one is more handsome?-you’U have to decide for yourself !) made us feel truly welcome in this comfy nightspot that is neither pretentious nor plain. Must rave about the clam chowder served us, for the clams were uniquely tender. Found outthat I was over-cooking my own chowder - smuggled out their secret recipe. Enjoyed the Italian salad that was served but forgot to mention that I was from staid English stock - pepper’s not my cup of tea - but suffered through it for the sake of the unusual ingredients that comforted my palate, such as cauliflower slivers, pickle slices and particles of potatoes. Yum, yum! We finally got to the main course -Baked veal scallopini a la Blue Dolphin - and it was well worth the wade through the mozarella-ham coating to find the tendertreasure inside. We went on an■evening that featured a Champagne Hour (each couple gets a chance to compete in a dancecontest - be it waltz or watuzi -. *some mighty nice prizes areawarded to winners judged bestby audience) and actually hung up our inhibitions long enough to do some fancy footwork . . . flunked out in this department but got lucky when door prizes were awarded - took home some lovely cologne! Don’t know what I enjoy most about the Blue Dolphin, but the staff, the music of Tony Orlando and the atmosphere combine to make me want to return again and again. Forgot to mention that Phyliss’ father is a great mixer and his old world personality is a joy to behold as he makes up. frosty concoctions at the bar. Never did get to meet mama, they keep her hidden in the kitchen . . . maybe next time!
