by Rod Siemens, Ag. Rep. Discussions on the feasi bility of establishing a vet erinary clinic for the area were held Monday by repre sentatives from the munici palities of Tache, Ste Anne, Hanover, La Broquerie and Steinbach. No decision on the possi bility of such a clinic was reached although councillors agreed on the need for good veterinarian service for south eastern Manitoba. Talks, scheduled to be con tinued at the next council meeting, centred around various methods of raising some $5,000,necessary to establish a veterinary district. If a veterinary district should be formed, all municipalities seem to favor the plan where the government would provide a building for a veterinary clinic and the municipalities would assist in the running of the clinic. The veterinarian would then agree to work in the area of the Veterinary dis trict at a rate not higher than a prescribed fee schedule. Farmers outside the district might have to pay a higher fee. Some farmers showed con cern that once a clinic is established they would have to bring in all their calving cows, farrowing sows and cows sick with pneumonia, to the clinic. “Not so”, says Dr Sonya of Steinbach,” this would only pro vide better accommodation for diagnosis and servicing the animals which farmers bring in.” If a veterinary clinic is established in this area, Dr. Sonya feels he could attract another veterinary to work with him. This would give them time to provide much better service and to offer farmers a “herd health” program. Many farmers, especially the larger dairymen, would like to set such a service but un fortunately this is not avail able here at the present time. With two veterinarians, farmers could have it. This could save them a lot of money in the long run, by “saving’’ some animals and by saving money on “unnecessary ‘‘drugs’” and better performance. If you would like your Muni cipality to help form a vet erinary district, or if you would like more information on it, call your local municipal representative and discuss it with him today. He would like to know what farmers want and will be glad to answer questions regarding the estab lishing of such a clinic. “The World is your Hometown” is what these young people are singing.
