Arraigned Before the Mayor Wednesday Morning. HE STRIKES HIS MOTHER-IN-LAW Is Released When His Tale Is Fin ished—A Man Ties To Enter the Mouse of Mrs. Hogane-The Sus pect Easily Proves an Aliy—Po Lice News. . Released from a two-weeks' quar antine, Wednesday, Charles Jones, aged twenty-five, was arrested by OMcer Fitzell on a charge of assault and battery preferred by his mother, Mrs. William Kline. When arraigned before the mayor, Jones told a story of too much mother-in-law. He claimed that his mother-in-law had been complaining about him coming home late at night. One night she threw ‘store wood at him. One piece struck hin and before he knew what he was about he struck ‘her. “I would not have hither if she had not threatened to strike my ‘wife,” he told “the tiayer, who or dered his release. A few nights ‘ago, a man tried to get into the house of Mrs. Hogan, living at the corner of Columbia and Windsor streets. Mrs. Hogan, who is probably eighty years of age, was aroused and asked who was there, ‘It's Ed Mortel, was the reply and the man disappeared.” An affi davit was fled against Mortel, who was arrested by Officer Fitzeil Tuesday on a charge of attempting to break into a house. Mortel easily proved an alibi, proving that he was in bed sick at the time. He was ‘released. More out of pity than punish ment, John McNally, an attorney, was sentenced to ten days in the county jail by Mayor Mader, Wed nesday afternoon. McNally has been on a spree for several weeks, and was practically drinking himself to death. He was arrested by Officer Fitzell and lock ed up, late Tuesday afternoon, aince which time he had been receiving medical treatment in his cell. It is believed that by being locked up for a period of ten days he will be able to sober up in that time and remain 50.
