Corps march for those who can’tThe Spectacle of Drum and Bugle Corps competition comes to Anderson Field, 26th Avenue and 85th Street in Kenosha, on Sunday, June 14 at 7 p.m. when the first annual Fanfare for MDA takes the field. The seven-corp show will feature the No. 2 and No. 3 corps in the world in the Cavaliers from Rosemont, IL and the Phantom Regiment from Rockford-Loves Park, IL. Also appearing in the show will be the Colts from Dubuque, IA, the Americanos from Appleton, the Northmen from Green Bay, the Pioneers from Milwaukee, and the Phantom Regiment Cadets also of Rockford-Loves Park, and an exhibition by the Racine Scouts. With the theme “Youth on the March for Those Who Can’t,” all net proceeds willbenefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The competition was the idea of a Racine-based group called Friends of MDA, with the cooperation of Drum Corps Midwest.Kenosha area residents who have never experienced the pageantry of drum and bugle corps will be in for a special treat, entertained by two of the three top corps in the world. The types of music performed by the corps are varied, and include classical, popular, and scores from stage and screen. But the razzle-dazzle showmanship on Anderson Field will take a back seat to the true purpose of the performance.“The idea of the event is actually multi-purposed,” saidJoe Fazzari, event chairman. “We wanted to put a top-notched show in southeastern Wisconsin to promote the area and the exciting world of Drum and Bugle Corp. But most important we want to be able to turnover a substantial check to MDA.Tickets to “Fanfare of MDA” are $8 in advance and $9 at the gate. Due to the limited seating at Anderson Field, fans are encouraged to purchase tickets early. Advance tickets are available only through June 12 at all Kenosha Fire Stations between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m, and at Ike’s Wet Goods, Sanders Paint and Wallpaper, and George’s Tavern in Racine. For further information call 634-6251 or 634-6681.
