Lapwai — Superintendent Theodor' Sharp of the Nez Perce Indian agenc; has received notice of his appointinen by the secretary of the interior as ; member of a competency commissioi to determine the advancement made b; Indians in civilized life, Mr. Shar, left for McAlester, Okla., where in vestigations are being made of thi progress of the Shawnee, Sac and Fo: and Choctaw and Chickasaw Indians.The purpose of this work is to with draw the guardianship of the govern ment from those Indians who ar found able to manage their businesi affairs successfully. Such Indians wil then be placed upon their own respon sibility.
