Saturday, June 2, 1894.WEPROTESXIn last Sunday, Times-Demo-crat appeared a communication from Dr. Holt to Senator Jumel in regard to the proposed leper hospital Dr. Holt suggests St Ma-rtinville as a suitable location for' the institution because the board of health in 1887 reported three cases of the disease existing in this parish. If the idea of the establishment of a hospital for the lepers is to isolate the unfortunes, it seems reasonable that the first thing to be considered should be the isolation of the institution itself and not look as a favorable location, one of the most thickly populated centers of the state. After a most, thorough examination in 1887 the board declared there were three cases of the de-sease, bnt today we know of none existing in this parish, therefore we can see no reason why St. Mar-tinville is mentioned in this connection—and suggested as a proper location. Even if there should have been cases here it would have been more humane and proper to isolate them in an isolated section of the state rather than to think of bnilding the institution in a populated center, and in the name of the citizens of this parish, we protest against any such legislation.
