And we earnestly beseech you u to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Call your servants around you and announce to them that after ten years more oj faithful service (as a recompense for the property value that you have invested in them,) they shall all have their freedom. And during these ten years of additional service that they will give you, improve every opportunity to educate them, and make them fit to enjoy their freedom when they come to obtain it. Many Christian and benevolent slaveholders have been neglectful of making any provision for the future freedom of their faithful servants, from an inability to place them, when free, where they may be in a condition to rise to a better and a higher state of civilization. But, thanks to the spirit of this awakened Christian age, we feel assured that a new era is about to dawn upon the condition of the free colored people of the North. Missionaries, of the Rev. J. F. Oberlix type, who will look after their physical, as well as their spiritual wants, are about to go into every free colored settlement, to carry to them the everlasting Gospel of salvation. They are to learn them agriculture and the mechanic arts—they are to be taught cleanliness of person and holiness of life—they are to be urged to practice, industry and to rise to a higher and a nobler civilization than any of their race have ever before attained. And when our Arkansas friend has given freedom to his own beloved f and attached servants, and he sees them planted in one of these colonies, and engaged in struggling upward into a higher life, will he not at the close of his own life (even if he cannot leave his children with so many dollars by so doing,) will he not, we say, feel within that he has tried to do that whichuas right; and with that blessed consciousness to sustain him quite, our friend may joyously and contentedly await to hear the glad sound, “ I am the resurrection AND THE LIFE I ”
