AWHL owners to meet this week Defending against a talent drain in the America West Hockey League is one agenda item for the annual summer meeting of league owners this week in Kalispell. Commissioner Rick Sanders is concerned that more estab lished Junior A leagues — the United States Hockey League and the North American Hockey League — will draw away top players from the AWHL. He wants owners to consider estab lishing a $1,000 transfer fee, payable by any team that takes a player on the protected roster of a team in another league. The fee would go to the team losing the player. Other topics on the table will include a national tender sys tem, national junior hockey letters of intent and a two-fight rule. The meeting will be Thursday through Sunday. It will include owners and general managers of the Billings Bulls, Bismarck Bobcats, Bozeman Ice Dogs, Butte Irish, Great Falls Ameri cans, Helena Ice Pirates, Fernie Ghost Rider and Kimberley Dynamiters.
