Jack had either through cowardice or impudence been carrying a pistol, and paid the whole cost of today’s session of the court, including salaries of the judge, solicitor, clerk and sheriff, and then sent some to the county treasurer to go to the credit of the school fund— a case of high-priced folly.The next case was against Roger Rogers and Walter Hassell jr., for breaking in the house of Hannah Hassell, u colored woman* and stealing i hams and selling them to several cit* izens of the town, claiming they belonged to Walter Hassell, sr., the father of one of the boys. The two young negroes, from appearances at the trial, did not mind the stealing so much, and displayed great willing ness to lie to try to get-out ol it. Rogers plead guilty to his presenco in the car with Hassell when he went to the Hannuh Hassell home and broke in and stole the meat, and said that he was wilh him when they sold the meat, hut that it was Hassell's car and that Hassell took he money for all salesHassell claimed that Rogers went to Skewarkee Church and got the meat out of the woods.Hassell was adjudged guilty. The court, through a flood of sympathy, fined Hassell $25 and all the costs, and sentenced him to 20 days in jail. Rogers was sentenced to jail for the term of 20 days.J. L. Bullard was up, churged with an assault with a deadly weapon. He was found guilty and fined $20 and charged with all costs.S. B. Maunders, assault with a deadly weapon. (Juilty..
