mission. The difficult\ in procuring lumber led to the establishment of a new industry about 18.77. when a combined flour and lumber mill was built on the flat,then east of the town. Messrs. Mara, Wilson, McIntosh and Usher were the ow ners. The last named gentleman was the (iovernment agent at Kamloops at that time, and met an untimely death, while engaged in the performance of his duty, at the hands of the McLean and Hare gang, four in number, in December, 18711. The murderers were hanged at New Westminster, •January If 1, 1881.
