Prof, Virchow's researches have led to the discovery of the cellular principle in all forms of matter possessing life. He has also discovered that the cell is the seat of and the vehicle of disease. “The begetting of a new cell from a previous cell,” says the great savant, “supplements the reproduction of life from previous forms. The law of the continuity of animal development is therefore identical with the law of heredity. The cell is the seat and carrier of individual life, and in it resides the vita propria. It possesses the properties of susceptibility and change in its substance, provided these do not destroj* life by producing local disease.” It would seem that the limit of discovery in the physical body had now been reached, although it is claimed that what are generally considered psychic elements of the body really belong to the domain of physics, and there are hopes that an investigation of them may be xnae possible by means of the sensitized camera.How’s Tliifl.
