A Letter from Admiral Allemande to their Hizh etter High ada oie weed June 3, from aboard the Prince, near High and Mighty Lords, ‘ gave your High and Mdightinesses Advice of what pass'd in the * Defeat of the French Fleet, I came to an Anchor under this * Cape, where I have been ever since yesterday in the After noon with the Squadron of Your Highnesses and Sir Jobs Ashby, Admi ral of the Enelith Blue, and to the other of their Britannick Majesties Vessels ; at what time being is formd by the Captain of a French Fire ship, who was taken Prisoner, that about twelve of the Vessels that I had fought against Your Highnesses Squadron, and to which we had given Chace, were got in among the Rocks, I prepar'd to go and de tray or burn them. But as I was ready to put my Design in Executi on, I found that Admiral Raffel was giving orders to the same purpose. Presently I offer'd him Your High and Adightinesses Light Frigats and Fire-ships, to assist his Ships ; and immediately gave all necessary Or ders, in café he would make us of ‘em ; but as yet I know not whether shee gates and FireShips were employ’d or no. All that I can assure ‘your High and Mightinesses is, that the same day they took a Resoluti on to destroy those 12'Ships, they burnt six of the biggest, being Ships ‘s of three Decks;and this day the rest that remain’d, the least which _carry‘d sixty pieces of Cannon, ran the same Fate, being burnt with all ‘ their Ammunition and Provision, together with six other smaller Vet * fels which they had lighten‘d of their Guns, to try whether it were pos *sible to save ‘em by towing ‘em any higher ; so that this Expedition has * compleated the aerepateh e Rgine of the Enemies Fleet, I understand this day from aboard Admiral Reffel, that Orders are given out to burn * the Transport Vessels that are in the Bay of La Hogue, to the Number ‘ of about 300, if it may be done pactanteey But I fear the Execution of the Enterprize. will be very difficult , by reason of the shallowness of the Water, where those Vessels lye; and the Resistance, which may be made from the Land, and therefore leave the Success of the Design ‘to Providence. On the other side, it has been ‘resolv'd at a great Couns ‘ cil of War, to reduce our Fleet to four 60 Great Ships, sail away to the “Ile of Gyhane, and endeavour to take all the Enemies Ships that ‘shall come forth, ‘or design to enter into sea and to send the rest of “the Men of War, with fome ee to seowre the Coasts of Franc, ” je ue P He 31th, of the last Month, and the 1st, of this Inflant, that
