Every team in the Toronto Ball Hockey Assoc, played a hard and aggressive game last week but no one was any further ahead of anyone else when it was all over. Both games resulted in ties and all four teams were credited one point each.The first game was a thrilling come from behind by the Golds. At the end of the second period Blues were leading 2-1 on goals by John Freidl and Mike LaLonde. The lone Gold tally was scored by Fred Cairns, playing his second game out of the nets. In the third period Lynn Ferguson scored for Blues and it looked like they might upset the Golds. But late in the third period Pete Schlitt bagged one for Golds and with just minutes remaining Fred Cairns stole the ball at the blue line, broke in and scored his second goal, to salvage a 3-3 tie.The second game saw the Greens and Reds battle a rough and rugged game to a 2-2 tie.The first to score was Greens when Ken Clark, who was just aquired from the re-organized Blues, took a pass up the middle from Bob Legault and drilled a low drive past Rob Bolton. The Reds tied the score on a shot by Cornelius that whizzed through a mass of players and into the net past a surprised Des Hennessey. Reds then scored againSCORINGwhen Wayne Lawson took Mullens pass and put it away behind Hennessey. Then, right from the face off and in less than a minute, Greens got that goal back as Legault pushed a pass to Ron Cambell who drilled a shot at Bolton. Bolton baubled the ball and it dropped from his glove and rolled over the goal line.As the game progressed it got rougher and rougher until finally, in the third period, tempers ran short and fists started flying. Jim Ritchie and Wayne Lawson both dropped their sticks and gloves in front of the Reds goal and went at one another. In the ensuing struggle to break them up Ron Cambell and Don (Cowboy) Cooper decided that they just didn’t like one another and, following the previous pair’s example, proceeded to engage in a game of destroy your opposition. But the remaining players were able to overpower the combatants and no real harm was done.
