Committee Appointed to Canvass City and Solicit Subscriptions to Finance Big Event---Outlook for Race Very Encouraging The council chamber at the city hall was not large enough to accom modate all of the race enthusiasts who turned out to the mass meeting held last evening. With but a few exceptions all were heartily in favor of a big race this fall and so express ed themselves. The slight opposition developing was of no great moment and even the few not considering the time opportune so expressed themselves that if it was possible to hold a race they would join forces. The sense of the meeting was strictly for a race and the first steps were taken leading to it. But a mi nority of the stockholders of the Co rona Auto Rating association were present, but with few exceptions they were boosters for another race. W. L. Peeler called the meeting to order-and-called-for-nominations..for a chairman. F. H. Ott, who in the past has been so prominently identi fied with auto racing in the city, was unanimously chosen as chairman and F. E. Snidecor drew the honor of be ing secretary. Expressions of ap proval or disapproval were slow in coming but when many of the big issues had been discussed it was de cided that the best thing to do was to find out whether or not the citi zens would finance the race. To that end, Chairman Ott appointed a com mittee consisting of W. L. Peeler as chairman, Jeff Crafford and Garry J. Thompson to make a canvass of the city and ascertain if the neces sary guarantee would be forthcom ing.
