While his back was turned,Tom Sims, a10-year-old youngster, (also colored,)made way with it, carrying it home.Judige Berry held an impromptu court over the matter at the corner of Broadway and Second street last night. .He instructed Officer Dick McStraviek, who made the arrest to take the youthto Commissioner Leekly.The boy first said that the purse contained no money, afterward he told the •commissioner that it held two ten dollar bills, a five dollar bill and a silver dollar and that bis mother took the whole works when he went home.The commissioner sent for the mother at 11 o’clock last night, and after cross-questioning both he could arrive at no just conclusion through their stories.He decided to lock them up until 3 o’clock today, when he will take thecase up again.The boy’s brother, about 15 years ofage, is in the reform school, convictedof stealing $15 from Brown’s store a few months ago.
