The harness matinee held at the Fair Grounds last Saturday after noon excited some attention, but did not avense the enthusiasm one would expect to be manifested by the horsemen of the city. There was no betting, nor was there any prize money or admission fee. It was merely a friendly trial of speed and is the forerunner of a series of like events that are sched uled to be held every Friday after noon this season. Six horses were entered. 8. R. Atwell’s Unknown,” driven by himself; J. W. Barrick’s Eddie C., driven by Clint Bowen; Jame’s Emily Mason, driven by Bird Fu gitt; Dr. Cochran’s Black Prince, driven by Robert Barr; Robert Barr’s John L., driven by John Honesty, (colored) and R. M. Hen ry’s Jeff. D., driven by Joseph Wright, Jr. The judges were Harry Russell, Dr Pine and James J. Russell. Albert Worthington was the starter, and Wm Gibson timer.
