Tli* Bodie News says: Over two years ago Louis Sammons, the veteran pioneer of Mono Lake, sank in that extraordinary sheet of water the dead bodies of three native born sons of the forest with a view to their petrification. The other day he brought m one body to land, and sawed off a portion of the scalp, which ho left at the Grand Central hotel in this city. It is just os fully u piece of petrified humanity as ever woe seen. The remainder of the body was again committed to the turbid waters of the lake. It i9 Louis’ intention to let the bodies remain in the water for six montlw longer, at which time he expect* a petrifaction of tho whole of them, one of which he will send to the Academy of Scienco at Philadelphia and another to the Medical Museum at San Francisco. There is probably no better use that the Indians could he put to than immeraon in Mono Lake with a view to their petrifaction. Mono Lake is capable of petrifying ft million of aborigines, and we advise tho immersion of a thousand squawe. Friend Sammons has struck the right business, and it is to bo hoped that his first instalment of Indians may lead to a largo demand from European countries. If it only takes three years to petrify, an immense fortune is in store for a company who will follow up tho business.
