Capture of Six of the Fayette Cavalry. Faepgategesvuna, Va., July 22, 1862. Ep. Truxs: It becomes my mournful duty to inform your readers and our friends, that the Fayette Cavalry met their first sad calamity in the capture of Lieu tenant Moffitt, Sergeants Wilson and No lan, and privates Gwinn, Bailey and Swift, last evening at sundown, on the direct road to Richmond, twenty-five miles south of this point. The particulars of the af fair are as follows: Lieutenant Moffitt, in command of twenty-three qoen, was one recompitering excursion, and when at the above named distance from this point, the party encamped for the night. The men captured went two miles in advance of the camp, when suddenly they found them selves surrounded by a force of fifty rebel cavalry sent out on purpose to make the capture. They did all in their power, but were overpowered by numbers and taken prisoners. The camp was immediately ax prised of the fact by a negro who secretly brought the sad news, and warned our men of their danger. No one was hurt but Wo. M. Gwinn, who had a leg broken while attempting to escape on foot. Our men are greatly excited.. We will give you further particulars as soon as possible. Yours truly, O. M.
