By Montreal Papers to the 26th ult., we learn that ac counts had been received, by the Hudson’s Bay Company, of the safe and prosperous progress of Captain Back and his companions, who reached Sault St. Mary’s,on the 11th of May, in ‘perfect health, and without experiencing any ‘accident. ‘About the 15th of May they passed Michipico ton (a trading port of the Hudson’s Bay Company, on the north side of Lake Superior), having accomplished a jour ney of one thousand miles in the short space of twenty-one Se : ‘ We regret to learn, by a St. John’s (Newfoundland) pa per of the 9th ingt.,, that a dreadful fire broke out there on Sunday, the 7th instant, which destroyed a great range of buildings. It commenced in the house of Mr. J..B.;Thom son,and, with great rapidity, eventually consumed every house lying in that part of the town, which is bounded on the west by the fire-break next the premises, of Messrs. M'Gregor and Co., and on the east by that adjoining _Messrs.: MsBride and Kerr , the value of the property de stroyed, can hardly be conjectured; it, should be observed, that the supplies for the Labrador fishery, were nearly all issued.
