BY BRIAN LIVINGSTON STAFF WRITER BAY SPRINGS — Jasper County Sheriff Kenneth Cross said this morning two men have been arrested and charged with capital murder in the robbery and shooting death of Marty Brady June 8. Jamie T. Jones, 26, of 2538 Tandy Dr. in Gulfport and Jonathan Duncan, 18, of 2032 Rebecca St. in Laurel, are being held in the Jasper County Jail. Jones was arrested by FBI agents Saturday on an oil rig 10 miles off the coast of Cameron, La. Duncan turned himself in to Laurel Police Department detectives July 24, and was formerly charged with his alleged part of the crime July 26, according to Cross. “Jones made a full statement and confes sion to us once we got him back to Jasper County,” Cross said. Jones’ arraignment was held late this morn ing, and Duncan is being held without bond. The confessions cleared up suspicions investigators had for two months when the Chevron station on Lower Myrick Road was robbed and one of its patrons was clubbed with a pistol. “I always thought it was a good chance the same people who robbed the Brady store were the same ones who did the Chevron store,” said Jones County Sheriff Larry Dykes this morning, “especially since the car allegedly used in both crimes was found back here in Jones County.” Jones is a Laurel native. There was not any information as to how long he had been living in Gulfport, but it is believed by law enforce ment authorities that Jones sought work as a galley hand on the oil rig to try and hide from police and sheriffs office personnel. FBI agents were called in to take Jones into cus tody because the rig was in international waters. “We actually went a day earlier to arrest him, but they had moved the rig,” Cross said. Cross is relieved to have this latest chapter come to a close with both men thought to be responsible finally behind bars. “I don’t know how to act this morning com ing to work and not being involved with this case as much as we have been in the past few weeks,” Cross said. “The help of the JCSO, LPD, MHP and of course our own investiga tors will help me to sleep better tonight.”
