Judging in the sheep and dai ry divisions highlighted the first day of the Lee County 4-H Fair Wednesday. Charles Ramsdell, Franklin Grove, showed the grand champion ram, a Hamp shire; Tom Hicks, Harmon, showed the grand champion ewe, a Corriedale; and Vernon Schwitters Jr., Dixon, showed the top market lamb. In the dairy division, Wes Herwig, Franklin Grove, dis played both the top junior and senior calves, Holstein heifers, and Mike Pratt, Dixon, showed the champ aged cow and the top dairy grade female. Ed Bushman showed the champion purebred female. In night action, the Eldena Wonder Workers downed the Sub-Let Indians for the county softball title. Events today include judging in the beef and swine divisions. Friday events include a tractor operator’s contest; horse halter classes and rabbit judging; clothing modeling; horse and pony classes; a dress revue and dog judging. An all-star show Friday night will feature Donald “Red” Blanchard, the Jeffreys, and Jeff and Lita dancers. Trophy winners in first-day competition are listed below. Cindy Conderman, Telegraph Photo Reign Over Fair Merle Bodmer Jr., South Dixon Willing Workers, and Phyllis Ramsdell, Grove Girls, were crowned 4-H king and queen at the 4-H Fair Wednesday evening by Margie Salzman, 1969 queen and Jerry Hicks, 1968 king. Merle, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Bodmer Sr., Rt. 4, Dixon, has been in 4-H Club work eight years. He is a 1970 graduate of Amboy High School where he was an honor student and plans to attend Sauk Valley College this year majoring in Agri-bus iness. Phyllis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don C. Ramsdell, Franklin Grove, is a 1970 graduate of Franklin Center High School and plans to attend Western Illinois University this fall. She has been an outstanding 4-H Club member for eight years.
