The Green Trojan Band under listing of Senior Bands, took first place last night in the Somerset County Firemen’s Pa rade. Its prize was $100. Under the same category, New Ken sington Band took a 2nd place prize of $50. Junior Band winners are as follows: 1st, Meyersdale, $75; 2nd, Berlin, $60; and 3rd Bos well $45. The Black Diamond Drum and Bugle Corps of Central City won 1st place and $35 in Junior Drum and Bugle Corps competition. Windber won 2nd place and $20. In the category of 40 or more men in a line, New Kensington took a 1st place prize of $100. In the category of 20 to 40 men in a line, Mt. Pleasant took top honors and $60. Hooversville won 2nd place and $40. Garrett won 1st prize in the 20 or less men in a line com petition, and with it $25. Under this category, there was a tie for 2nd place between Meyers dale and Frostbrug, Md. Due to this two-way deadlock, a prize of $15 was awarded to both groups. The crowd thronging the pa rade route was estimated at being approximately 5000. There were 100 units, and over 20 mus ical units. Fire Companies Fire companies which march ed were as follows: Meyersdale, Hooversville, New Kinsington, Conemaugh Garrett and Somer set Fire companies that had equipment in the parade were Somerset, Garrett, Meyersdale, Hooversville, Geistown Rock wood Frostburg Md., Bakers ville Berlin, Greensburg, Cen tral City, (1966 Barre] Pumping Champions), Windber Sipesville Shanksville, New Centerville, East Huntingdon Two. Boswell, Hollsopple, Mt. Pleasant South Connellsville, Jennerstown, Lis tie, Southmont Richland Fern dale Fridens, Salisbury Dun bar Jerome, Scottdale, New Kensington Conemaugh, Conflu ence Legionier, and Stoystown. Bands Participating The following bands partici pated in the parade: Somerset Area High School Band and Honor Guard; Black Diamond Band, Central City; Meyersdale Area High School Band; Rock wood High School Band; Ber lin High School Band; Green Trojan Band, Greensburg, Wind ber Fire Drum and Bugle Corps; Shanksville-Stoneycreek High School Band; Mt. Pleasant Fire Co. Band; Boswell High School Band; Salisbury High School Band; New Kingsinton High School Band and Turkeyfoot High School Band. Judge Thomas F. Lansberry and Mayor William Barnhart rode in the parade. Following thier car were the Somerset County Commissioners, the Bor ough Officials, Somerset Coun ty Firemen Officials, Somerset County Firemen Auxiliary Offi cers, Somerset County Firemen Association President and Auxi liary President; and Somerset County Firemen Association “Old Timers.” Fire Queen The following area Fire Queen participated: Miss Donna Jean Raley, Somerset County Fire Queen, Boswell; Miss Janet Lohr Garrett; Miss Karen Roberta Smith, Berlin; Miss Sharon Sob lesky, maid of honor, Central City; Miss Patricia Ann Swertz Windber; Miss Rebekah Wahl Salisbury; Miss Bonnie Jo Chris tner, Somerset Miss Paula Werner, Maple Queen XIX; and Miss Vicki Kaufman. New Centerville’s little Fire Queen were also in the parade. Several Twirlette groups par ticipated including the Tam O Shaners, Hia-Wa-Pawn-Chees, Little Pawn-Chees, Berlinettes, Kittie Kadettes Wee Kitties, and the Wagners Candyettes, Johns town. Two floats were in the parade. They were J. B. Phillips, ““Come See The County Fair” float and a float sponsored by Suder’s of Confluence, which showed a big sandwich and a milk shake. Also, WFRB radio of Frost burg had a moblie unit in the parade.
