HOPLAND NOTES HOPLAND, July 28.—Mr. and Mrs. Ray S. Pardee were Ukiah vis itors last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Bays and John nie Bays, returned Sunday evening, after spending their summer outing touring the southern part of the state. Warren Davis Jr. spent the week end in the Doty home in Hopland. The following party motored to Ukiah last Friday in Claude Doty's Buick Six: Misses Della Wilsey, Al ma itch and Ida Doty; Messrs. Claude Doty and Ray Houston. They pronounce Claude “some chauffeur.” Braxton Hyden, brother of our Ed. Hyden, will be on hand at the open ing of the season, to try the success of a city boy, on the big game con quest. William Duncan is having his Bartlett pears packed and shipped. He will have about seventy tons. They are now bringing $7.50 per box in New York. Our ears for music may not be in tune, but we have heard from others, that they too are weary of the bray ing music, which we suffer, day and night in Hopland. Not one escapes the venom of that donkey, or what ever you call him. His name is not Maud either. Please take him away and bring us the Dill. J. S. Williams of Healdsburg, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. Fr. F. Bailhache and son, HE. L. Williams and their families of Hopland. Mr. Warren has bought a new hop farm above Ukiah, and the following party motored up to this place this week: Mrs. Georgia Doty, Claude Doty, Misses Marie Bailhache and Della Wilsey. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Cox of Healds burg, visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bailhache. Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Bailhache are sisters. Mr. and Mrs. F. F. Bailhache vis ited the latter’s mother in Healds burg last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. B. Sneed visited the Bailhache home the past week. At the Williamson cottage, Dun can Springs, Mrs. Williamson enter tained a happy company of Hopland young gentlemen, with dancing and refreshments this week. Hopland people can enjoy much entertainment. Three nights in suc cession by the Electric Comedy Com pany was the record for last week end, including dantes at the close. Some of the stunts put on were not on the program, but very exciting and somewhat painful to nerves and flesh. A’ charge of embezzlement in Judge Clendenin’s court for July 26, was postponed by request of defense, ‘on account of absence of attorney. Two cases of complaints for bat tery, were settled with paying fines. The Misses Gladys and Gertrude Williamson, invited some of Hop land’s young men to a picnic by moonlight on Russian river Tuesday night. Jack Henderson of Ukiah, was a visitor to Hopland relatives this week. The family of Frank Dooley are in camp for the summer on Russian river. The roads are lined with loads of hunters and families, going north, equipped for emergencies, on and af ter August 1st. They are supposed to have hunter’s licenses, and to stop at the Hmit. Mr. Harrington is shipping alfalfa for $20.00 per ton f. 0. b. Hopland. Judge T. J. Geary and wife and T. J. Geary Jr. and wife are gone on an auto trip down the coast, as far as ‘Jenner by the Sea.” Harold Zimmerman of Ukiah, is ‘visiting his aunt, Mrs. Robinson in Hopland. The following is the new high school board of trustees: Wayne Crawford, Mrs. William Duncan, Frank Siereks, J. D. Metzler and W. S. Graham. Frank Caughey, of Ukiah, has been employed as principal of Hop land Union High School, for the next year. There is one more teacher yet to be employed, according to infor mation given out by Mr. Caughey. Packing and shipping Bartlett pears is now in progress at Hopland under the management of Ben Ja cobs, for Seagel Day of New York, the oldest fruit distributors of New York, having been fifty years in the business. “They are packing and shipping just four times as many fruit raisers at Hopland as last year. They got as high as $128. 000 Gongtpat last year, for Supervisor B. Lywill iams. More is expected this year. Miss Bernice Grant of Cloverdale high school, is spending her vacation with her grandparents, Judge, and Mrs. Clendenin, in Hopland. Miss Dorothy Duncan is visiting friends and relatives in Ukiah. . Miss Laverna Haskell, niece of Mrs. Robinson of Hopland, is visiting at Ukiah. New dental parlors have been opened in the Thatcher hotel in Hop land by A. J. Hullenger, D. D. S., formerly of Oakland. Mrs. J.. Tupper and her niece, Miss Grace Harmon, returned from Oakland Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Bert Lawrence of Oakland came up Tuesday night to visit some weeks with her sister, Mrs. Harmon and family. Mrs. L. Vassar is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Ollie Lea, in Rich mond. Ben Foster came up from San Francisco on’ Tuesday morning’s train. Mrs. Jack Henderson and son were down from Ukiah Tuesday, visiting in Hopland. Mr. and Mrs. William Duncan and Billy and George Sierck made a visit to Lake county for some days. John Manning brought down a fine ear lot of fine hogs from Lake county for the San Francisco mark et this week. Prof. Billman, former principal of Hopland high school, was up from Geyserville Monday. The new high school board will re pair and improve the buildings for the next term and make sanitary everything pertaining to the same. Bert Thompson is building a bun galow cottage on the heights. The following are among the hap py company gone into camp this week on Russian river: Mesdames Dr. Sperry, Ada Dooley, and Misses Laura and Bessie Sperry,Tennie Walker, Edna Hughes, Dorothy Al lenbest, Nora Brush, and Geraldine Gibson. They expect to reach the highest heights and deepest depths.
