At Dubuque on the evening of July 24, Patrick Harriot ton- and .Tony Pfeiffer engaged in a fight with fatal results. Harrington keeps a house of questionable repute on the Seventh street extension, renting a room to two girls. Pfeiffer called at the house and was ordered away. Refusing to go, Hariug-ton seized a stick of eord-wood and went for Pfeiffer, knocking him. down. Pfeiffer obtain-tbe mastery, seized the same stick, and beat Harrington’s brains out, mashing his bead to a Jelly. Death ensued immediately. Pfeiffer was arrested and placed in jail. He says he acted in self-defense. Both men are laborers. Harrington was a section railroad boss. A few years ago he was discharged for dissolute habits.
