Harlan, of Grant county, in a few forcible and pungent remarks, in our city, on the evening preceding the Grand Mass Meeting, defined his position upon the old Democratic platform, and dec'ared for Freedom and Fremont.As evidence of Mr. Harlan’s consistency we subjoin a resolution adopted unanimously by the Democracy of his district, at Fort Wayne on the 23d May, 1849, at which he was first nominated for Congress: Resolved, That we are decidedly and firmly opposed to the introduction of slaves into said Territories of New Mexico and California. And while we deny to Congress the power to interfere with the question of slavery in the States where it now exists, we think it. the duty of Congress to pass an act, either connected with the organic laws of said Territories, or other-wise,prohibiting the extension of slaveryAI____m___TT7 flJi I.
