BALLINGER, July 22. — Dis bandment of the Ex-Open Range Cowpunchers’ Association, which met near Ballinger in a two-day gathering each year, except 1929, from the time of organization in 1910 until last year seems inevita ble unless offsprings of its dwind ling membership revive it, says C. A. Doose, secretary since form ed. No plans have been made for a reunion again this year at the usual time in the first part of Aug ust. Doose says only five of the charter members remain alive to day and it is doubtful if more than three of these. C. M. Hunt of Bradshaw, vice-president of the organization, W. H. Mullins of Ballingers and John Castleberry of Midland, would be able to at tend this summer. J. M. Johnson of Winters, president since organ ization, suffers bad eyesight, and Doose has been informed Newt Ferguson of Abilene is also in bad health. Doose, not qualified as a ‘regular, was made an honorary member. Fostered by a group of 40 hard riders of the early days of Run nels and adjacent counties, the Ex- Open Range. Cowpunchers’ Asso ciation was formed Sept. 21, 1910, under a large elm tree overlook ing Coyote Creek on the L. P. Woods ranch, six miles north of Ballinger. Its chief purpose was to keep alive memories of experiences incurred on ranges that have since been turned mostly into farms. With the rapid decrease in mem bers through the membership re strictions of the first by-laws a range rider prior to 1890 — a few years ago the association voted to allow immediate families to enroll
