KA.SY SERIOUS CONNECTION BETWEEN YOUNG BOSTON MAN WHO CANNOT BE FOUND AND PERPETRATOR OF TOURIST HOTEL HORROR PUZZLES POLICE Did Gifford McGirr have any con nection with the suicide of J. C. Ab bott, who murdered his wife on June 27 at the Tourist hotel? This fact in pugziing the local sleutha, who have taken the significant fact into consideration. Since that date McGirr has been missing. He was also a guest at the Tourlet hotel, occupying room 76. On June 2% the room was taken by a Mrs. White Renton and R. L. McGirr registered at the hotel from Billings, Mont., June 26. McGirr was first reported mine ing by his aunt, Mra. KB. Goan, 805 Madison, who had letters returned from Portland, addressed to general delivery, and uncalled for. McGirr parted from his father at Billings in the early part of June. His fath er has valuable mining interests near billings, and says that McGirr intended visiting the Portland fair after calling on his aunt in this city. Mrs. Goss stated Saturday that her nephew did call at her home on two occasions, but failed to keep a third appointment with her, and since that date has never written to her or his father at Billings. The father’s letters to his son, ad dessed to general delivery in this city, as well as to the Oregon me tropolis, have been returned uncall ed for. His parents are now thor oughly alarmed at his continued ab sence and fear the worst. McGirr and his father left their home in Boston early in the spring for a western trip. The son wanted to vielt the fair, and parted from his father at Billing. He had plenty of money to carry out his tour to the fair, and his disappearance has caused no end of worry in the fam ily at Boston, where the McGirr’s are well known. Although little has been said in regard to J. C. Abbott's strange tri to Castle Rock, a small town milee the side of the Columb river, John Cudibee, proprietor o the Tourist hotel, stated at the time of the suicide and murder that Ab bott did make that trip, and after his return on the morning of fate ful June 27 murdered his wife and killed himself upon learning that his wife had taken up the life of a fallen woman instead of remain ing true and loyal to him. Abbet registered at the Tourist hotel Jn 7. They had been in Montana cities previous to coming to Seattle. Bullr ings was one of the places they stop ped at for a short length of tim McGirr hunted up the Tourist hut upon arriving here. What transpt between the trio, whether they knew one another at all, upon what mis sion Abbot went as far as Castle Rock, the absolute disappearance of McGirr dating from or before that date, are the threade that the police must follow to solve a murder, @ suicide and lastly the mystery which has shrouded the young life of @ member of one of Boston's well known families. Did Abbott kill McGirr and hide a second murder in suicide? Why did he come back and kill his wife when she came to his room at the hotel early in the morning of the tragedy? Did McGirr know too much about Abbott and his ! Until the mystery has been ol up surrounding the name of MccGirr, the connection between double tragedy and himself be shaken. McGirr’s father is wealthy, and no doubt the case will be ferreted out in time His son was 22 years of age and handsome.
