Tho crop generally looks badly, though there are a number of very promising fields of tobacco, notably thatof Frank Quarles, who perhaps has the largest acreage and best crop in the Southern part of it.e county, at least anywhere uear Howell. The corn crop in this immediate vicinity is as yet damaged but little by drouth, but like a drowning man it needs help and it needs it right vou\Fallowing for wheat is progressing satisfactorily and I presume notwithstanding the low price of the article the usual acreage will be sown.Mr. Creed Haskins, who recently lost his house by fire, has already begun to rebuild.Miss Nellie Fox and her brother Peter, of your town, arc visiting at their aunt’s, Mrs. M. Peter has shot away three boxes of cartridges and succeeded in making one terrapiu crawl down off a log and thinks ho will be able to hit a barn before his vacation expires.A paragraph in your last issue in regard to the Bcntly-r-McKnight wedding was incorrect. They were not married at her uncle’s but over in Tennesson, uear Lafayette, and owing to various misfortunes and delays did not return to tho dance at Mr. Paschal Gile’s (au uncle of the bride,) given In their honor until about 1 o’clock that night. The delay was caused by failure to get the Minister expected, and a misunderstanding as to the hour. However after the ceremony tho bridal parly returned to the dance and tripped the light fantistio until the rising sun began to “paint rod” tho Eastern horizon, after which they returned to the hospitable home of the bride’s grand mother, where I am informed they will lu futuro reside. Tho danco was highly enjoyed by all present and the graceful movements af our medical friend Mathews were the subject of universal admiration. The thanks of all present are hereby tendered to Mr. and Mrs. Gill’s for a most delightful evening and we here pledge them tho toast of Hip Van Winkle “May they live long and be happy.
