Celebrating His Eightieth Birthday.Few of our citizens reach the good old age attained by Deacon H, L Doailny, of Beekman-town Corners, whose eightieth birthday was celebrated Friday, J uly 15th.The many Mends of Mr. and Mrs. Doralny took advantage of tails occasion to express to them their good wishes and esteem. As a slight preparation for the scene which awaited him, Mr. D. was Informed that In honor of his birthday, the family, as had been their custom upon many similar occasions, would pay a visit to their old home. But the family that gathered on this occasion proved one of surprising proportions, it filled the house to overflowing and swarmed under the old trees that shade the grounds. According to arrangement the party, or such of them as were on hand at the time appointed, fathered at- the Corners, and armed with has-ets, proceeded «n masm to the house, where they found Mr. D. engaged In reading a letter of congratulation from Rev, T. A. Hamilton, a former much loved pastor. As the truth dawned upon him of what the occasion meant, the kind old face beamed with pleasure, and this kindly smile rested upon all assembled, like a benediction. After tea, tbe party gathered in the parlor to witness the presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Dom- iny of a pair of beautiful upholstered easy chairs. The presentation was made In most appropriate language by Deacon Joel Barber, and was re-! sponded to by Mr. Domlny in tender touching words that brought tears to the eyes of the assembled crowd. Prayer was offered by the pas-; tor, Rev. N. McLeod.' A short season of merry • converse followed, and then the party separated, i each happy in the memory of the scene just wit* i nessedMr. Domlny is the oldest active member of the 1 Presbyterian church of Beckman town. The Sabbath previous to the above gathering, he resigned his position as teacher in the sabbath ; School, a position he had held for half a century or more. It was with deep regret that the school in consideration of his advanced age and the I faithful service he had rendered, accepted hia i resignation. They accorded him a hearty vote 1 of thanks, with the earnest hope that he, might I long be spared to them, and that the dealings of the Good Shepherd might be very tender with ■ him, causing him to lie down in green pastures, : and leading him beside the still waters.
