SO years agoFrom the Biddeford Daily Journal: “A 49-year-old leather worker was slated to appear in Sanford Municipal court this afternoon at 2 to answer to a charge of murder. Ernest McCormick was taken into custody Sunday night by York County Sheriff Harold R Nason for allegedly murdering his wife, Blanche. 64. at their South Waterboro home. This morning Sheriff Nason quoted McCormick as saying he shot his wife because she was nagging him. Nason said that McCormick had been drinking when he was arrested. Mrs McCormick was felled by three shots from a 30-30 rifle as she stepped into the kitchen of her home last night. She had just returned from a visit with her son. Norman Taylor, who lives nearby, when she was shot.*’
