From staff and wire reports BASKETBALL Has-Beens edge Will-Bes, 52-49 The Has-Beens edged out the Will-Bes 52-49 Wednesday night at the Fort Walton Beech High School gym in the fifth annual basketball contest between present and past Viking girls players. The victory narrowed the series lead with the Will-Bes ahead 3-2. The Has-Beens, coached by Bill ‘‘Fort’’ Knox and “Uncle” Bob Grant, were led by Susie Richards with 17 points and Stephanie Dorman with 11. Richards drained six field goals, one three-pointer and two free throws for her game-high total. Dawn Sinclair and Dee Brazier each netted eight to round out the graduates’ top scorers. Melissa Dorman was the best scorer with nine points for the present troops of Kevin Craig and Tony Anderson. Dorman also pegged one three point shot. Kaycee Hardy and Amy Wyckor each contributed eight points while Susan Lark had seven. Abdul-Jabbar faces 2 charges PHOENIX, Ariz. — Los Angeles Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar faces two misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged shoving incident at a Phoenix shopping mall, a city prosecutor said Wednesday Abdul-Jabbar was charged with one count each of misdemeanor assault and misdemeanor criminal damage as a result of the April 21 incident, Tyler Rich, an assistant Phoenix city attorney, said. An Italian tourist, Fernando Nicosia, claimed that Abdul-Jabbar struck him and broke his video camera as Nicosia was videotaping the 7-foot-2 center at the Metrocenter shopping mall.
