STROUDSBURG — A Cresco man was fined $200 and placed on six months probation yes terday after pleading guilty to driving without a license. The man, Lawrence Eugene Englert, was warned by Presi dent Judge Fred W. Davis that if he is caught driving without a license again he should be prepared to go to jail. Judge Davis said this warn ing applies to anyone caught for this offense, noting, “I’m getting fed up with this. You fellows can figure on going to jail.” The judge placed Englert on six months probation on the condition he pay the $200 fine and court costs in $20 weekly payments. Karl H. Dick of the Monroe County Police Re serve was prosecutor. A Hazleton man, John Thom as Dougherty, was fined $500 and placed on nine months pro bation after pleading guilty to drunken driving and leaving the scene of an accident. Judge Davis fined him $300 on the drunken driving count and placed him on nine months probation and fined him $200 on the count of leaving the scene of an accident. State Trooper James R. Har ris of Mt. Pocono, prosecutor, said Dougherty drove four and one-half miles away from the scene of the accident with a flat tire before he was appre hended. The accident occurred on Interstate Rt. 80. Dougherty’s attorney, James Scanlon, said his client admits he was intoxicated and didn’t know what he was doing. But, Judge Davis said, “It looks to me like he was trying to get away.’ A fornication and bastardy charge against Thomas Tomsie of Upper Saddle River, N.J., was dropped by Jean Bond of the same address because the couple is now married. Judge Davis suspended the court-ordered support pay ments. Other cases that will now be scheduled for the September term of the Grand Jury be cause the defendants did not plead yesterday are: John W. Thurmond of 103 First St., Stroudsburg, and The Inn, Buck Hill Falls, operating a motor vehicle without a li cense (second offense), East Stroudsburg Policeman Charles McDonald, prosecutor; Louis Tatalias of Strouds burg, operating a motor vehi cle during suspension of opera tor’s license.
