(CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1) was split up by a four power order. It was the main factory in Lud wigshafen and covered several acres. US officials here said the plant was burning furiously two hours after the explosion. The plant has been reported mak ing dyes. Completely unconfirmed reports in recent months have stated that French authorities were making in the plant high-explosion propulsion fluids for experiments with V-1 and V-2 missiles. Mannheim police headquarters said “many” persons were injured in Mannheim by concussion from the explosion. Some 300 police men were sent from here to help rescue work. All police from the American zone state of Hesse and from the French zone state of Rhineland-Pfalz were ordered to send men to the area. Red Cross workers for miles also rushed to the scene.
