A Haunted Locomotive.Northern Pacific locomotive No. 350. which now hauls the regular daily passenger train bet ween Butte and Helena, bears the proud distinction of being hauuted. About a year ago it was pulling a tea express over the Northern Pacific and jumped the track and fell over a steep embankment, killing its engineer and fireman. Since that time it has been haunted by the wraiths of the unfoitunate men, and no earthly power seems able to drive them away.Night before last it was being cleaned in the Butte roundhouse, and the two engine-wipers who were at work upon it heard the door of its firebox open and shut violently several times, although th«re was no living person in the cab at the time. One of the wipers securely fastened the door with his own hands, and then, with his companion, t awaited developments. They saw the 3 door shake violently for a moment and then swing wide open, and after remaining B t'ius for a moment close again with a loud B bang. Nobody was in the cab, and there ' was a fire in the box. ,No. 350 is known on the Northern Pacific as the haunted engine.”
