I shall watch with anxiety the great events which are approaching. In the inscrutable decrees of Providence, it is, perhaps, possible that I may yet bean humble instrument in assisting to reconcile the jarring passions and discords which afflict this unhappy country, and to restore to the people those great constitutional rights and liberties which formerly gave to England prosperity, peace, and contentment at home, abd honour, glory,'and dominion abroad.—My friends, in final reply to your kind and gratifying invitation to tee, to attend a great meeting in Birmingham, lor the purpose of restoring harmony and reconciliation amongst the different classes of our townsmen, I have to say, that X do not think it prudent to do so, in the present excited state of men’s minds. Mischief of some kind would probably - be produced, and that mischief, whatever it might be, wotua most certainly be laid at my door.—With the sincerest wishes for your health and happiness, I remain my dear friends and fellow-townsmen, your faithful friend and servant, .« London, July 17,1839. “ Thomas Attwooo.”
