Hospitals To Add 750 BedsGreater Winnipeg hospitals within the next year will have about 750 beds more than the present 3,541 they already have.A survey of Winnipeg hospitals shows that six plan expansion in the immediate future or already have expansion programs underway.Biggest at the additions will be at Winnipeg General where 324 beds will be added .in the new north wing. However, 62 beds will have to be demolished to make room for a cafeteria. General now has 758 beds.There are big doings at Deer Lodge, too. The. hospital now has 520 beds, and by January, 1938, there will be 700 beds. But that’s all the expanding planned for the present.Misericordia. which is now a 312-bed hospital, will have 512 beds by fall when the new Cornish wing is opened.Grace, which now has 230 beds, jvili be getting 60 more beds and 60 bassinettes in the maternity wing. Building is slated to begin inthe fall. • iA renovation is planned for Victoria hospital — and 40 to 50 beds will be added if the federal and provincial governments give their approval. If approval is given, construction will probably get underway sometime in -1958.Concordia hospital will have its maturnity wing enlarged by eight cribs .and eight beds. They are also planning to start construction on a JOT,■000 nurses’ residence simetime in 195*. . ..
