Wright, a Young Cc ored Lad, 17 Years Old, is Drowned in Little Beech.George Allen Wright, a young negro boy. 17 vears of age, the son of George Wright, was drowned Sunday morning while bathing in the Little Beech, near 1 Litsey. The colored people were holding a basket meeting at Litsey on that day and some of the boys decided to go swimming, the Wright boy being among 1 the number. The other boys were expert swimmers, while he was inexperienced. He, nowever, attempted to follow them and did swim across the nver and across the hole in which he finally met his death. When the time for the return came his companions attempted to persuade him not to attempt to cross the deep hole of water near Vanars dale's mill again, but he was obdurate and struck out. He soon began to weaken, however, and before assistance could reach him had drowned. His body was recovered by Jim Best, a colored man, and Di. Hopper was summoned, but when he arrived life was extinct. At the coroner’s inquest a verdict of death bv accidental drowning was re turned.
