TOMS RIVER (AP) — Four men have been killed in the collision of two private planes over the Garden State Park way here. One plane crashed in the parking lot of the Community Memorial Hospital, narrowly missing an oxygen storage tank. The other crashed in flames a mile away in woods be tween a community nursery school and a Jersey Central Power and Light Co. gener ating station in nearby Ber keley Township. Police said the victims of the crash yesterday were Ed ward F. Walsh, 47, of Toms River, president of Ocean Aviation of Toms River; Gor don O. Stearns, 32, of 27 Dwight Drive, West Deal, the firm's general manager, Samuel W. Jelin, 43, of Jamesburg, a bail bondsman, and Angelo Perry, 43, of Will ingboro. They said Walsh was the pi lot and owner of the plane which crashed near the hospi tal and Jelin was the pilot and owner of the other plane. Authorities had earlier re ported that Jelin's stepson, Scott F. Sedlazek, 17, had been killed in the crash. Ac cording to Berkeley Township police, a wallet found in the wreckage contained his iden tification papers. But later police said Sedla zek was not aboard the plane and they identified Perry as the fourth victim. Witnesses said the two single-engine planes collided at about 11 a.m. about 3,000 feet over the Garden State Parkway. ‘It looked to me like the white plane (Jehn’s) hit the other at a 90-degree angle and sheared off the wing and the tail,’ said Philip Pagano, 17, of Toms River, a mainte nance worker at the hospital. “I thought it was going to crash right into the east wing of the hospital, but then it just spiraled into the parking lot, ’ he said. Federal Aviation Authority officials said an investigation into what caused the crash may not be complete for six weeks. Authorities said Walsh's plane had taken off minutes before from Miller Airpark, the Ocean County-owned air port where Walsh's firm runs an air charter and instruction service, while John and Perry were reported to have taken off for Atlantic City from Mercer County airport about a half-hour before the colli sion
