F. King, who has been associated with the Townsville Fire Brigade Board, in the capacity of second officer, superintendent and secretary to the Board at n salary of £312 per annum, and free lodgings.The Board held its monthly meeting when there were present Messrs. J. G. Crowley (chairman), G. Chapman, F. Venables, W. D. Davies, J F. Steine and the secretary (Mr. G. R. -McKay).The Chairman slated that the Board had received no reply to their letter to the Home Secretary givingthe estimates for the year at £2420,arid asking for an advance of £50.Mr. Venables said that they had no money to meet incidentals. It was a fortnight since they wrote. It was not right for the acting secretary to have to meet the charges.The department was criticised by members, the Chairman stating that it seemed the- usual practice to hold things up.It wa- decided to write away pointing out that it was necessary to have money to work on.Five applications for the positionof superintcndtfjit of the brigadewere received and Mr. A. F. King of Townsville was appointed.Messrs. K. O’Shea. J. Vnlda-hairis, M. F. Cox, M. Anderson,' C. Bartlett. J. Fitzgerald and G. R. .'!lt;• Kay were accepted as auxiliary firemen.The acting secretary reported as follows :— I beg to report that a very serious outbreak of fire occurred in the premises of the Innisfail Motor Supplies on the morning of July 11. which practically demolished the whole building and contents, comprising It) motor vehicles and one tractor, a quantity of tools and accessories. Representatives of the Voluntary Fire Brigade received a call at 3.30 a.m. and quickly had two lines of hoses run out, and playing an excellent pressure of water on the building, etc.. which was enveloped in flames. The flames spread to a cafe adjoining and were quickly .-•ubdued by the efforts of the brigade. Water was concentrated on the floor lt;*f the burning building of the Innisfail Motor Supplies, and somewhat checked the debris from collapsing into a garage beiow. occupied by Mr. J. Dorreli, thereby saving a certain amount of his personal belongingsand effects.“The insurances on the buildings and stocks were a.s follows (approximately) : Building of tb* InnisfailMotor Supplies, £700; contents, 12 motor vehicles totally destroyed and five motor vehicles partly damaged,approximately, £2200. On accountof Mr. Dorreli, two motor vehicles uninsured anil a tractor in the course of repairs. The cafe building, owned by Mr. Zorbas, £200. The damage to the building was estimated at£50. Those who attended the fire wereMessrs. G. R. McKay, Ken O'Shea,Claude Bartlot, Jack Valdaharris.The matter of quarters for the brigade was discussed at length, Mr; Venables stating that if they could not rent suitable buildings for the time being, they would have to secure land immediately and build. It would be necessary to anply for a loan forthis. A loan would also be necessaryto purchase a fire fighting engine.Several likely sites for the location of the centre were .mentioned. • andthe chairman and Mr. Chapman wereelected to make investigations, *»nd if necessary call a special meeting to deal with the matter.It was decided to advise Mr. King when his services would be required, this to depend on when money wumade available.■ I
