Engineer Acquitted of Slaying Ogden Girl in Park At Golden Gate SAN FRANCISCO. July 24— Millard Hickman, 45-year-old ma rine engineer, was acquitted by a jury tonight of the Golden Gate park murder of Louise Jeppesen of Ogden, Utah. The jury, which retired at 4:37 p. m., reached its verdict at 7:33 p.m. But it was not until an hour later that Superior Judge Lile T. Jacks reached the courtroom and listened to the judgment of ac quittal. “Let me be alone for a few min utes! I want to be by myself, were Hickman’s only words 454 the verdict was announced. The jury actually deliberated only one hour and 49 minutes, having gone out to dinner at 6:05 p.m. and not resuming its session until 7:12 p. m. After the seemingly endless hours of argument by attorneys of both sides, the courtroom sprang into sudden life as Prose cutor Peter J. Mullins ended his final plea in midafternoon. Thanks Prosecutor, Defense Attorneys Harry and Edwin McKenzie jumped to their feet with vociferous requests for opportunity to answer arguments of Mullins they said had not been supported by the previous course of the case. Their request was denied, Severin Jeppesen, brother of the plain girl, who ‘has listened carefully throughout the trial, rose and stepped to Mullin’s side.' Throwing an arm about his shoul ders, he thanked the prosecutor warmly, We are eternally ‘trateful for all you've done, he said. The case went to the jury at 4:40 p. m., after instructions last ing about $5 minutes. Jurors ap peared eager to leave their seats after the long siege of listening to arguments since Friday morn ing. Arguments were unlimited in time, and Edwin McKenzie talked eight hours for the defense.
