But all were delighted with his work which looked so easy, but no one could even make a close guess as to how the various tricks were performed. After his introduction oy Rev, Simmons, the able platform manager, be began telling how easy it was to be a magician; displaying his bare hands to the audience be placed them together for a few seconds, then opened them, displaying one handkerchief from which he took a number of colored silk handkerchiefs and threw them oti a chair. Selecting two hand* kerchiefs, one blue and one red, he tied them together and put them into a glass on a little table; theu he took' anotherglass and in it he placed a small U. S. flag and kept the glass between his hands in full view of the audience, while counting three when the glass seemed to be empty. But on examining the contents of the glass op the table it was foundto contain three handkerchiefs,the flag securely knotted between the other two. Nicola was au interesting talker, giving away the secret of many of j Val\m tricks. Nicola removed his coat, stepped behind the velvet curtains, leaving his face in full view, counted three, clapped his hands twice and immediately the curtains were opened lt;\nd a dainty little lady stood there while the trunk waslocked and tied as before.
